Millions of people use Signal every day for free and instantaneous communication anywhere in the world. Send and receive high-fidelity messages, participate in HD voice/video calls, and explore a growing set of new features that help you stay connected. Signal’s advanced privacy-preserving technology is always enabled, so you can focus on sharing the moments that matter with the people who matter to you.
• Say anything – State-of-the-art end-to-end encryption (powered by the open source Signal Protocol™) keeps your conversations secure. Privacy isn’t an optional mode — it’s just the way that Signal works. Every message, every call, every time.
• Go fast – Messages are delivered quickly and reliably, even on slow networks. Signal is optimized to operate in the most constrained environment possible.
• Feel free – Signal is a completely independent 501c3 nonprofit. Development is supported by users like you. No advertisements. No trackers. No kidding.
• Be yourself – You can use your existing phone number and address book to securely communicate with your friends.

It's pretty good. I have a few issues with it though. 1. When somebody calls your phone line while you are on a signal call, it will instantly/automatically disconnect that call. 2. I have been having more problems making calls with the app, as of late. Other than that, it's fantastic. It was a 5 star app but these new and persisting issues are adding some frustration.

Very user friendly. Useful customizations. Overall great! I enjoy the new feature that lets you fully view and reply to messages without actually opening up the app. However, I would like to be able to add a wallpaper/background for my main signal-viewing page, the one that lists all your conversations. Overall that is trivial. I do wish there was a way to name numbers who don't have signal accounts, as my signal currently isn't interfacing with my contacts. :(

The app is pretty good overall, but two things. One is that the app just shuts down service, so things like messages calls won't go through. Yet I am either connected to wifi, or my cell service is clearly working. Another is the video and audio calls. The video call doesn't ring, but rather gives me no notification that someone is calling while I'm in or out of the app. Then I check the app and see just a missed call however long ago the call was.

It's good for texting. My only hangups are that it doesn't sink up well with the Microsoft To Do list app, so you can't easily send curated lists to people, and also there's not much for stickers, gifs. Also it doesn't work to well on the pc either with Windows Phone Link. You can't pick up from the PC easily. You have to copy and paste links from the phone to get to a page sent via this messaging service. So while it's good for messaging privately, it's not the best.

Not reliable. WAS reliable for last 2 years. Won't send messages for days lately. Can't use this app for critical communications. My boss thought I was ignoring him for the last 2 days and a couple weeks ago as well. I thought the last update fixed the problem. It did not. These failures to send texts cost my employer money. I have to switch back to Android native text app. Bummer. I loved Signal for the last 2 years.

Signal is a great way to avoid the totally unreliable SMS/MMS that is insecure and has no message delivery guarantee. Signal is available on multiple platforms. Seems to work as expected. Not sure if it can run over Tor connection... I do like the fact you can synchronize it between several devices. But you do have to make sure the main device can receive a text. That maybe a bit of an oxymoron since the point of Signal is to avoid the atrocious SMS/MMS that simply put. Does. Not. Work.

Edit: Over time it has not gotten better. Calling through signal sucks and randomly throughout the day the app does not receive picture messages or group messages. So as someone who uses texting for work I can't receive important messages/updates. Very frustrating. Changed 4* to 3* and if it doesn't change I'll go to 2* Update: it's unusable. If I can't receive multi-media messages I can't contact family or perform my work. I missed a shipment because of this frustrating application.

Would have rated 5 stars because at first it was great, but now no calls will come through. Kond of rough when my boyfriend is out of the country and the only way we can communicate is via text. This issue only recently came up for us but I see other users mentioning it so I guess it's not just me. Other than that it's worked quite well. Texting feature hasn't failed us yet -fingers crossed.

This application is quite difficult to use. I never know if I'm receiving a phone call or a signal from Friends. It does not give a distinct enough ring where I can distinguish anything regarding it. It would be nice to have that option of a louder sound and also to give your friends a distinctive sound when they contact you. I have not had an opportunity to use other features because I don't know if I've been contacted until I go out of my way to check.

App started crashing continuously on open. Searched for resolution on Google. Tried restarting and clearing cache--no luck. Next troubleshooting was to reinstall app. Well, *all* my Signal messages are lost now. Attempted to restore Signal app + data from Google cloud backup. Still no messages. It shouldn't be this easy to lose all of your data, specially when the app crashing is what led to having to reinstall the app?

Seems to work well but on the latest version, all my link previews aren't loading so just links are going through while friends link previews ARE working. All of my links are https and it is happening accross all links I have tried to post from many different websites including mainstream media sites and youtube. I don't understand why this is the case for me. I have had this issue before but it was resolved by updating my app. This time, there's no update so I don't know what to do.

Works great for voice and video calls. I love the fact that all conversation are encrypted. Adding a message to a gif or photo before you send it really helps make the message cohesive. I really like the color coding for people. I was disappointed when the colored backgrounds for each person's message ended. Now it's just their name that is colored. Maybe they could make that a choice

I like the concept of this app- texting without spying on me-but I keep on running into glitches. Messages often refuse to send. I try to resend them, but that typically causes the app to freeze. I sometimes have to try 7-10 times to send a message. I'll get phantom messages--a text notification for a message that doesn't exist. These always appear as messages that didn't make it through and that need to be downloaded, but doing so glitches the app. If these issues are fixed I'll gladly give 5*

We've used this for over a year. In addition to knowing our communication is secure, I like the confirmation that a message is delivered/read. It's pretty seamless even with non-signal users. The accompanying desktop app is great! There are a few oddities: when the safety number for a contact is reset it's a little clunky if you aren't local to one another.

Love the ease and security. As someone well versed in cyber security. It is such a relief to find something that remains secure and doesn't interfere with a availability. I recently lost all of the data on my phone. Everything that was super secure has been a big issue ever since. Except signal. Entered my phone number and it verified me real quick. Didn't even have to enter any codes. It figured it out for me. I am sooooo happy this was easier than expected.

Best messaging app (and I've tried many). Also great for making crystal clear calls. Great for sharing photos etc. One feature I love is how we can customize each conversation with a special wallpaper and color. This kind of personalization makes it FUN! Other features I love are disappearing messages, the privacy, the "note to self" feature, ability to send voice messages.

Worst thing is when I'm on call connected to Wi-Fi, after a while, the Wi-Fi disconnects and connects via mobile data. I have to manually toggle the Wi-Fi on my phone to connect. The voice breaks a lot on this app and not when I use any other app. When I call and turn off screen before they answer, they cannot hear me. Other than that, Simple and clean interface. No clutter or fancy stuff. No story or status nonsense. Just chat and calls.

Been using since March 2022 and so far it's been an easy, intuitive, safe way to communicate free of any noticable issues. As an Apple-to-Android convert a few years ago, I really appreciate having a messaging app again where I can react to specific text boxes. Phone calls have been exceptionally crisp sounding; texts are sent/received instantly (often message my partner in the next room and can hear the ding immediately). Overall I'm a fan!

To early to tell, but so far it's been working ok. All though a few times it has interfered with my Bluetooth pairing with my vehicle & also caused a freeze up to my phone having to reboot the phone. Other than that it seems to be pretty secure. And just now answering your questions at the bottom of this page, I don't see the area to submit? Oh look it just popped up, strange?🤔

When receiving text there is a delay. It doesn't always notify you of a new message. Recently you have to open the app to see if you receive any texts to find that it was sent 30 minutes to a hour earlier. Wish there were options for filters for photos. Everythings else about this app is great.

The most comprehensive, feature-packed and secure messaging app available for the Android OS. Intuitive UI, streamlined interface, customization ready, user-friendly, and highly secure end-to-end encryption by default to ensure your privacy and data security. Simple to set up with your existing mobile phone number or an anonymous burner number. Send and receive lightning fast text messages over WiFi or cellular data. Also, HD voice calling is available. Open source and always free.

Very difficult to send images, not at all an intuitive or fast interface. Also produces an annoying and unhelpful warning message whenever you try to save images. You can't send videos at all. Good for important stuff, but for casual conversation, it loses a lot. Since my phone requires a "default" app for texting people, I end up using it for both. Needs some UE improvement, but functionally it's fantastic.

I was a little worried that I would not be able to make a smooth transition but all of my messages were Uploaded along with the threads quite accurately.. I am using a Galaxy 10 and I have not had any problems sending photos, etc Update June 2020 new phone Pixel 6. The latest transfer didn't work. Signal didn't transfer.Tried updating files from the old Galaxy 10 to desktop computer and followed all Signal instructions with my tech guy hubby. No dice. Lost it all. 😱😩😩

Constantly says that signal is draining my battery. And trust me, it does. It also makes the top part of my screen pretty warm. I also have issues of random phone restarts when opening a message or the app itself. If these bugs are fixed, I'll give it a 5 star review. Please fix it?

My only complaint is I wish I could receive/send my normal text messages on the desktop app as well. Maybe you can do some kind of proxying thing through the app on the phone. You know Google's messaging app has a web interface option that lets you send and receive SMS from the desktop. I'm not saying you have to do it that way but I am saying add normal SMS text messaging to the desktop app please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I only have one big complaint. When I go to insert an emoji, a preview of several large-sized ones comes up, and one is always a spider. As someone with severe arachnophobia, this causes an immediate and really uncomfortable physical reaction for me. I don't know why anyone would use that emoji anyway. I would really appreciate it if that could be changed. Otherwise, it's great.

Best messaging app I've used. I like having my messages encrypted and unlike Google's messages app, I don't get spammed all day long with Signal. Plus Google's messaging app all too often disconnects from their encryption service and constantly is trying to reconnect the special features. I've switched to Signal permanently.

I would like to see conversation swiping with delete AND archive options. It would be nice if Signal didn't rely on phone numbers too but it works for my contacts who are uninitiated. Contact pinning is nice but it's limited to pinning only 4 conversations, which is ridiculous imo. It's also too easy to swipe away your conversation when it's pinned; it should be locked. Lately, each update seems to be crunching bugs so that's good to finally see.

This is a no-nonsense chat with intuitive features that is easy to use. Its audio and video services work very well and the entire application is highly configurable through many advanced options. Signal's open source code is testament to the developers' commitment to transparency. For this, it is exceptional.

Absolutely no complaints about the way it works. Been using Signal for over 2 yrs. Text and calls both. It would be really nice if it was possible to actually delete conversations rather than having to archive. I would also like to permanently block so they are unable to send anything. At present, this isnt possible.

I love how user friendly this app is. It's actually more private than WhatsApp, your messages are end to end encrypted. This means you get to download pictures and videos sent to you on your phone. With WhatsApp everything is saved to your phone automatically whether you like to or not which sucks. I love the disappearing message feature in case you want to delete some posts after a certain time the emojis are on point, the call n video quality are good, it's a great messaging app overall. 💖❤❤

For being a nonprofit, they run a solid app. A few features could be added (like the ability to add a caption next to each photo) but overall works great. Voice calls are clear, and 100+ member groups also function smoothly. In fact WhatsApp copied a few of its features, like the ability to emoji-react to a message.

Seems good enough. Good reputation. I seem to occasionally have a hiccup when someone doesnt get a message but then maybe they just arent picking up. I'm having some issues with the timeliness of some texts. It seems that sometimes I don't get prompt texts when I'm trying to figure out when someone is ready for me to pick them up. Some of those texts don't show up until much later than I need. Sometimes not until the following day.

Lost the ability to send videos to those who don't have signal. I use signal as my text message app which is awesome. I don't have to check 3 different message apps. I was able to send short min or less videos to my friends who don't have signal. Now I can't even send a 10 second clip. Please fix this.

Signal is a well polished Messaging App and the E2E encryption for messages and audio/video calls is well integrated. This should be the norm. My complaints are small. 1) the reliance on a valid phone number is a bit of a killer for the privacy community. (2) The ability to become the default Messaging app seems to be underdeveloped. That's it. I love the app for the most part.

Was perfect until recently when I'd get a whole slew of messages several minutes to nearly an hour old. Stable wifi connection or nearly full bars of 5G but I sometimes have to open the app to receive a backlog of messages. Prior to this recent development messages were always instant and reliable. Now I'm starting to think I'll have to look elsewhere.

Update: Cannot delete contacts! Refreshing does not recognize when one was deleted by phone. No easy way to know which media is saved to phone and which isn't. I've also requested the important feature of being able to star messages and pin them in groups. Would love a small notepad for each contact too but overall amazing.

Cons: importing message history from before you started using signal is no longer an option. (This is understandably for encryption security) SMS Iphone reactions are still obnoxious. Pros: It works; messaging(sms and wifi), the messages reactions, send and read receipts, consistently reliably function as expected. Encrypted WiFi messaging has at most 1.5 second of lag, to send and receive messages provided you are on reliable network. + Encryption > Google scanning every text you send/receive.

The fact u can do the hearing test to adjust ur head phones is amazing. And the premium makes stuff alot easier. If u listen to alot of music and like looking for new music the premium is the way to go and work it... I've had no issues at all until the free trial ran out... I knew I had to get the premium

Signal has repeatedly been either crashing + it has been plagued with alot of no audio issues while attempting vchat and/or voice call mode. V e r y annoying. How do they expect to compete w/ whataApp/meta? Or other similar platforms? If these issues continue? This service is a far cry from when I 1st utilized the App back in 2019. But yet, I will giv'em 1 final shot @ the free throw-line! Probably for the next 1-3 months. We'll see?
