Translation Engineer is an offline speech-to-text transcription and translation app designed for long dictations and extended texts. It lets you transcribe spoken language and translate it in real time, even without an internet connection.

App features:

– Speech-to-text transcription (offline or online) – offline speech recognition is recommended for lower latency and improved accuracy. To enable it, download the speech recognition language in your phone’s Settings → System → Languages → Voice input.
– Offline text translation – Download translation languages using the download icon next to the selected language.
– Transcription only mode with more languages. Activate from MENU – TRANSCRIPTION
– Text-to-speech playback – Listen to both the original and translated text using the play/pause and stop controls.
– Save transcripts – Export both the original and translated text to a text file for later use.

How to use:

1. Select the source [1] and target [2] languages.
2. Download the required speech recognition language and translation language pair (if not already installed).
- download speech recognition language for transcription - from phone’s Settings → System → Languages → Voice input.
- download language for translation - using the download icon next to the selected language.
3. Press START. The app starts listening.
4. Speak or simply point your device's microphone at any source of spoken audio.
5. The app transcribes the speech and translates it automatically.
6. Transcribed and translated texts can be edited using edit buttons. When edit mode is exited the updated original text is translated.
7. To play original and translated texts use play/pause and stop buttons. If you select text then only selected text is played.
8. You can send text to translation app using MENU - Translate or select text and press translate from context menu of selected text.
9. You can transcribe speech from more languages in TRANSCRIPTION ONLY mode. Activate it from MENU - TRANSCRIPTION. In transcription only mode translation is not done automatically. You can use MENU - Translate to translate text with translation app.

SPEECH-TO-TEXT TRANSCRIPTION
On first app start allow permission to record audio in order app to be able to use microphone and do speech-to-text transcription.
The app checks selected original language [1] that it will transcribe from.

Selected language is colored based on its availability. There are three possiblities:

- selected language is available to use offline and is already downloaded (normal color)
- selected language is available to use offline, but is not downloaded (green color)
- selected language is not available offline and will be used online (blue color)

Offline speech-to-text transcription is better cause it has lower latency and is faster.

How to download language for speech-to-text transcription:

- Go to phone’s SETTINGS – SYSTEM – LANGUAGES – Voice input setting
- Press gear icon
- Click on [Advanced] to see downloaded languages
- Press [Add a language]
- Select language to install

TRANSLATION

Translation from original language [1] to translated language [2] is performed offline.
In order to do this languages pair for translation must be downloaded.

If there is a need to download language a download icon will be shown next to selected languages.

Press download icon to download language.

SPEECH-TO-TEXT
To play text-to-speech of original and translated text use play buttons. When text is selected then only selected text is read.
