Meet Bramble, a cuddly hedgehog in a green tweed flat cap and a cosy mustard cardigan. He stands on a stepping stone in his English cottage garden, under his apple tree, and plays the cor anglais, the oboe's bigger sister. His little fingers cover the holes exactly as a real player does for every note you play, and Ruby the robin hops from teapot to teapot beside him. Toddlers Cor Anglais turns your phone or tablet into a real-sounding cor anglais made for small hands. PLAY Eight teapots stand on a long garden tea table: big pots for the low notes near you, little ones for the high notes further away. Tap a teapot and its lid hops while it sings and a curl of steam winds out of its spout. Hold it and the note keeps singing, slide across the teapots to slur from note to note and wiggle your finger for vibrato. Every new note drops a rainbow apple from the tree onto Bramble's spines: collect all eight and he shakes them into the basket for a harvest party! Record your own tune and play it back, and try more sounds: the whistling kettle, magic cor anglais, oboe, bassoon, bagpipes and recorder. REAL COR ANGLAIS The whole cor anglais lies across the screen: the reed on its silver crook, the black wood and the pear-shaped bell. Cover its six holes from the reed down and every hole makes the note lower; hold the octave key to jump up high. A chart shows the fingering of every note of the scale, and the little oboe plays the same fingers so your child hears how the cor anglais sings a fifth lower. SONGS 26 songs, from Polly Put the Kettle On, Hickory Dickory Dock, London Bridge and Greensleeves to Handel's Water Music, Scarborough Fair and Goin' Home from the New World Symphony (the most famous cor anglais solo of all), each with its own band. • Magic mode: any teapot plays the next note. • Follow mode: the right teapot glows. • Listen mode: Bramble and the band play the whole song. BAND Play with the village band on the bandstand: drum, fiddle, concertina, tuba and piano. Pick one of ten grooves (tea dance, morris dance, brass band, music hall, church bells, hornpipe, Water Music, rainy day, Mersey beat and clockwork) and every teapot fits. Tap the big kettle button: the kettle whistles while Bramble plays a run and a trill over the band. Add ten tricks with one tap, from Big Ben's chimes to a big finish. GAMES In the Tea Party every line of the song brings a friend to the table: a rabbit, a mole, a badger, a squirrel and a mouse. In Bake a Song every note adds a layer to a cake, and out of the oven comes a cake that sings your child's own tune. Repeat Ruby's songs in Copy Ruby, and tell high from low with Mimi the mouse's whistle and Winston the bulldog's tuba in High or Low? LULLABIES Bramble curls up asleep in the leaves under the moon while little hoglets trot across the lawn, counted one by one, and the magic cor anglais plays lullabies with harp and a music box. A sleep timer slowly fades the music out.
